Teach a Man to Fish – Part 3
Today is Pentecost, todays give a man a fish lesson we may be focusing on the giving of the fish. Why? Well it is because you need to know what you are dealing with, looking for and living with. In this series I have been looking at teaching you how to fish as the saying goes to only give you a fish means I feed you for a day, but teaching you how to fish you can feed yourselves for a lifetime. But within this there is an important lesson, one we see manifest in the New Testament, especially when you compare it to the Old Testament.
BIBLE STUDY
Square One
It is exciting as a new believer coming into Christianity, you are awash with new feelings and everything is exciting. You are full of energy and everything is new to you, you love praying and talking to God as an infant does when they learn to talk. You delve into the scripture, busy to know more about the God you have just given your life to. Life is pretty exciting in these days.
I would say this marries with anything new that we start, whether it is like a new hobby or project or career, at the beginning it is all interesting and fun and we gain so much from it. But what happens down the line is, we can become bored or things just seem monotonous, that we feel like we aren't getting anywhere. This is where we slip and can slide backwards in our journeys.
BIBLE
Teach a Man to Fish - Part 2
If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day, if you teach a man to fish then he will feed himself for a lifetime. So the message of part 2 is all about the importance of having your own relationship with God. We all hear it time and time again to pray, pray without ceasing, talk to God. But if that's all we do, then what are we doing?
APPEAL
Feed the Poor Appeal
There are so many people that have been impacted globally by the Coronavirus pandemic, more so by the lockdown measures put in place to slow or stop the spread of disease. Whilst this is a good thing, the side effects are that many people are restricted in their ability to get food. I have seen a small part of this myself, but what I personally face isn't anything compared to some in my country and around the world.
BIBLE
Hope in the Darkness
What a strange time we currently live, a time that will feature in the history books as one of the biggest events of the 21st century. The global pandemic of Covid-9 aka Coronavirus has hit and swept through the world unlike anything we as a people have witnessed before. The last outbreak of a deadly disease was the Spanish Flu in the early 20th century. Since that time we have had several struggles as a human race, but that has mainly been against each other. This time however is a time where the human race is up against a disease that does not discriminate and will attack anyone it comes into contact with.
RELATIONSHIP
The Devil will always try to disrupt your relationship with God
The devil, Lucifer, the enemy, Satan, the anti-Christ is someone we hear a lot about in Christianity simply because he is trying to disrupt the work of God and His relationship with His people. But why is this? Well simply put, it is because Lucifer is jealous of God and wants what he has. We can tell this from the early parts of the story, God ruled over all of Heaven and Lucifer was the top angel in charge of running the whole Kingdom (that's right, even above Michael and Gabriel). At one point Lucifer started to succumb to pride and think more of himself than of God. This isn't always hard to believe as history is littered with similar examples of people thinking they are better than their masters or rulers and deposing them. Lucifer was/is no different, he didn't understand why he wasn't in charge of everything seen as he practically was as he ran the whole kingdom.
CHRISTIAN
The Star
The star, I have been think a lot about the star that sits at the top of the Christmas tree, the star that first made its significance to the wise men who first saw it in the west and travelled east to see what great phenomenon it was guiding them towards.
This post is a little later than I had intended, it was meant to be ready and posted by Christmas to keep in with a festive theme and help peak your interest. However it doesn't particularly matter when this is posted because the theme and focus of the post is not about Christmas at all, but about Jesus. If we think about it the wise men (Magi) would have had to see the star months in advance to the birth of Christ if they were to arrive just after He was born, similarly they still would have seen the star for months if the star arrived at the birth of Christ and it took them 2 years to reach our infant Lord (scripture isn't particularly clear on which it was).
MIRACLES
God Decides the Miracle
A person who is sick or injured can get a miracle 1 of 2 ways, either through a miraculous moment or through the medical profession. As Christians we are very familiar with stories of miraculous happenings, that extraordinary moment where God intercedes on our behalf and does something wonderous. For the purposes of this message we are going to focus on healing, whether physical or mental, the health and well being of people is important and important to God. There are other miraculous moments in the Bible, fire coming down from Heaven, metallic axe head floating to the surface of water, thousands of people being fed from a tiny portion of food… the list goes on, I’ll let you search for these an many more examples.
WORK IN PROGRESS
Work in Progress
We are all a work in progress, we are all on a journey to get somewhere and make something of ourselves a long the way whether that be a career or a skill we want to develop. It can be a scary thought and a long process, much like building this website. I am not technically minded despite living in the age we do. My computer skills are limited and I have never built a website before and looking at its first carnation, I'm sure you can tell. However I have trusted God in building one as a platform and a base to first announce the ministry I have been called to, in order that I can make a start on the things to come. I have listened to God and trusted Him in the fact that He has assigned a task and wants me to complete this within my life time.
FOCUS
Focus
I like the word "focus" and its meaning. I was going to name the website focus because of what it represents and as I want to help people focus on Jesus. When we look at the word, the word focus means "the centre of interest or activity" or "the state or quality of having or producing clear visual distinction" and this is just the definition as a noun but when you looked at the word as a verb you see again the great meaning of the word.
